★ DOSSIER · APP ★
What is .app?
For apps — mobile, web, desktop, watch, anything you can download or install. HSTS preload makes every .app domain HTTPS-only.
★ Mission log · Interesting facts
- .app holds the record for fastest-growing new gTLD launch — over 200,000 registrations in the first week (2018).
- Cash.app (Block, formerly Square) is one of the most-recognized .app domains, with hundreds of millions of users.
- Many indie iOS/Mac developers prefer .app over .com because it signals the product type immediately.
- Google itself uses many .app domains internally and for product launches (e.g. duo.app for Duo).
- Like .dev, every .app domain is HSTS-preloaded — your site simply will not load over HTTP, ever.

.app FAQs
The most-asked questions from earthlings, answered.
Is .app better for an iOS app than .com?
It signals "this is an app" instantly. For a single-product brand it can be sharper than .com — Cash.app is a perfect example.
Can I use .app for an Android app too?
Of course. .app is platform-neutral — works for any app on any OS, including web and desktop.
Does Apple verify ownership for .app domains used as Universal Links?
Yes — Apple's standard apple-app-site-association verification works on any TLD including .app. The HTTPS requirement actually makes setup smoother.
What's the difference between .app and .dev?
.app for products / consumer-facing applications. .dev for tools, libraries, engineering teams. Many companies own both.
