★ DOSSIER · XYZ ★
What is .xyz?
A general-purpose TLD designed to be affordable and unrestricted. Pitched explicitly as a "next generation" alternative to .com.
★ Mission log · Interesting facts
- When Google restructured in 2015 it chose abc.xyz as the homepage for its new parent company Alphabet — overnight legitimizing the entire TLD.
- .xyz crossed 1 million registrations within its first year — fastest of any new gTLD at that time.
- XYZ Registry runs "1.111B" promotions (one-dollar single-letter combinations) that flood the market with low-cost names.
- Web3 projects love .xyz because it's unrestricted, cheap, and not yet associated with legacy corporate gatekeeping.
- XYZ.com (yes, the registry's own domain) sold to its founder for an undisclosed price in 2008 — long before the TLD existed.

.xyz FAQs
The most-asked questions from earthlings, answered.
Is .xyz taken seriously?
Yes — Alphabet (Google's parent company) uses abc.xyz as its primary homepage. That single decision normalized the TLD for the rest of the industry.
Why is .xyz so cheap?
The registry chose volume over premium pricing — they'd rather have 5 million $9 registrations than 500,000 expensive ones.
Is .xyz good for crypto/Web3?
It's the unofficial Web3 default for landing pages. Combined with ENS / unstoppable domains, .xyz forms a big chunk of on-chain identity.
Will .xyz be around in 10 years?
The TLD is contractually managed by XYZ Registry under ICANN. It's well-established and not going anywhere.
Can I use .xyz for email?
Yes — works just like any TLD. Rocket Domains includes free email with every .xyz registration.
